Our Standards

Our standards are some of the toughest in the industry. Our job is to help you protect tens to hundreds of millions of dollars of physical plant, and we take our fiduciary responsibility very seriously.

The industry considers corrosion rates of 5.0 mils/yr for mild steel in open systems as acceptable. We specify no greater than 1.0 mils/yr as the standard. The technology is available to achieve the highest levels of protection for your equipment and that becomes our goal.

Over 90% of failure analysis on piping related to cooling systems identifies biologically induced underdeposit corrosion (MIC) as the reason for the failure. Keeping this in mind, it should be no surprise that the biocide program is the single most important aspect of any water treatment program. Many sites have no biological testing as part of their field service.

The newer high efficiency tubes used in most condensers can be destroyed in one season by biological fouling conditions. Most bacteria secrete acids which readily solubilize copper and eat right through the tubes. Just take a look at the photo on the preceding page.
